Roo has had a hard life and finds it easier to hide than anything.  When her parents are gone, she is sent to live with her uncle that she never even knew existed.  Roo's uncle lives in an old children's hospital with many rooms and mysteries.  Roo loves to be outside and alone, one day while running from the live in tutor, Roo finds herself in a hidden garden.  Roo also meets the mysterious River boy, who helps her, and the secret to the humming she hears is finally revealed.

This was a great book.  Roo was such a unhappy character when she was first introduced and then she turns into a character who finds her place in the world. This story reminded me a lot of the book The Secret Garden, because there was a mysterious garden that just needed love, and while giving the love to the garden the people were healed too.  Great read for 4th grade and up!
