Earthsea A Wizard of Earthsea By: Ursula K. Le Guin
Although Ged was of humble birth he became a great sorcerer, better than all the rest, with a strong lean toward nature. As a young sorcerer he was not always careful with the power that he used. In one moment he cast a horrible shadow into the world, one that would haunt him. In his journey to conquer this shadow he learned many things. Along his journey he was able to help those around him, find that there is a plot to take his powers, and come to deaths door to fight the evil that he unleashed.
This was a classic tale of a young person on a quest. All the classic elements of magic and a young man that knows he has to make things right and learns a lot on his journey. Originally written in 1968 this proves to be a timeless tale. This is the first of six books in the Earthsea series, so if you are itching for more you should continue your journey.
