Code Name Verity By: Elizabeth Wein
This is the story of a spy who is captured by the Gestapo. She is forced to spill her secrets while she is being held prisoner. She is able to weave a wonderful story about herself and her friends Maddie and tells the secrets while she is doing so. The story that she writes is a beautiful tale of friendship, and each day she writes she is given more time to live. Throughout it all she is just hoping to get home.
This was a beautiful story. The horrible things that happen to Verity as she is being held breaks my heart. This is a wonderful historical fiction novel, that shows how close people can get and that through torment and imprisonment there is always a way to survive. Great middle school and up read.
