Eight Keys

Eight Keys By: Suzanne LaFleur

Elise does not want to go back to school. She is not quite ready for middle school, and unfortunately her fears are not unfounded. The first day she finds that one other student, who happens to share a locker with her, is not going to be nice, and smashes her lunch every day. Elise has trouble doing homework and her teachers are not very nice about it, and her friends Franklin is still acting like a baby.  Elise is having a hard time dealing with everything and starts to act unlike herself. On her twelfth birthday in her note from her father, who has died, she finds a key and this key is the beginning of Elise getting herself back on track.

I loved this story. A brave young girl still missing both her parents, starting middle school, and just trying to figure out who she is.  This is a perfect read for those entering sixth grade and will help them know that they are not alone.
